Llandudno Pier
Llandudno Pier is one of only a few places on the North Wales coast you are able to access deep water without a boat (Not including Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula rock marks)
There are now restricted fishing times and a £10 charge to fish the pier. Still it can produce very well at times bottom fishing with Smoothhounds in summer and Cod in winter coming from the deeper water.
The fishing itself is onto a sandy bottom with all your usual species available, the favored spot is out to the left off the end and I have never snagged there. I think this is also down to the tidal pull having less effect on your end tackle so it’s easier fishing. In general it’s not too snaggy at all so you should have little tackle losses when fishing here.
The good thing here is the availability of other species that can be caught on Mackerel feathers or Sabaki rigs, I tend to bait mine with a small bit of lug, rag or mackerel depending on what you are after. There are wrasse and Pollock to be caught close to the base of the pier, there really is no need to cast. Simply drop baited Sabaki or feathers down the side, check the tidal flow so you know it isn’t going to pull you into the pier structure. There are a few other minis down the side such as sea scorpions etc, casting out during summer with Mackerel feathers can get you Mackerel and Pollock too. Great for fresh bait or eating. Mini bashing as its known can help ease the boredom if fishing is particularly slow or help increase your species count.
Payment is made at the kiosk towards the end of the pier, £6 per person at the time of writing with two rods allowed.
It’s pretty comfortable fishing with toilets, food and drinks at the top of the walkway. The jetty end is restricted to anglers only, it can get busy at times as it can fish really well and has a good selection of species to target. Summer time is its peak season for anglers here, its deeper waters letting you target mackerel as well as fishing the bottom.
If there is no room the wall on the pier, the stone wall to the left at the start of the pier can be fished at high tide only. If you take a look at low tide you will see it is boulder strewn so its a rough ground fishing mark, you will definitely want to use rotten bottoms here. Still it’s a well fished area with regular catches reported, just used rotten bottoms or pulley rigs to try and save on tackle losses.

There is pay and display parking at the start of the pier and some more spots near. It can get busy in summer so getting there early or late is key. Due to its depth Llandudno pier can fish at all states of the tide.
