Pigeon Holes
Pigeon Holes is one of the only sea fishing marks along the North Wales coast (not including Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula) that gives access to deeper waters at both high and low tides. As its a deep water rock mark it can be fished at all states of the tide.
Pigeon Holes is not an easy access venue, it does involve a bit of a climb on the way down and back up again. I would avoid fishing here following rain as the grass will become wet and slippy, its steep in sections. Besides the wet grass there are two areas that involves a bit of an all fours scramble or climb, best to travel light here if you can. The fishing itself is off a vertical rock face, the top is flat so provides a comfortable fishing spot. Just watch your ankles as it is pocked, with one particularly large crack.
The cliff face cannot be climbed up or down for better access. Bear this in mind as the tackle you are using has to be able to pull anything you catch up the rock face. This means a strong rod with a good strength leader should be used. You will be fishing onto rough ground close in with a sandy bottom further out, 4 ounce grippers work well here.
Unfortunately a fisherman tragically lost their life fishing this mark in May 2018. From the news reports was angling for a better position on the cliff edge when slipped and fell, always be cautious and if possible do not fish alone at this fishing venue.
To access Pigeon Holes fishing mark you must drive (Or walk, bit of a trek) along Marine Drive. There is a toll of £3.50 per car, park the car where the rock overhangs the road, its about 100 metres after the first left bend you come too. There is a gap in the wall directly opposite where you park, walk through the gap and to the right you will see the well worn path down to the fishing mark.
This fishing Mark and the pier give access to Pollack, Wrasse and minis as well as your usual species…season dependent of course. I have only ever caught doggies, small Pollack and mackerel here. Bearing in mind I have only fished it during the warmer months, also there are not many recent fishing reports. Not a venue I will be going back too anytime soon as with any fishing Mark it can have it’s day….It’s just never really been my day whilst fishing there.
The lack of reports as well as my own poor sessions does not mean it cant fish well at times. I’ve seen plenty dogfish come out here but the difficulty accessing the mark means the venue isn’t for everyone.
There are several other fishing marks around the Great Orme, I have not fished these areas but will try to get more information on them and have a few sessions.
