Shakespeare Salt Tripod

The Shakespeare Salt Tripod is a great piece of kit. As I first started my foray into sea fishing it quickly became apparent that I would need some sort of tripod, its pointless in more places to even try fishing without one. I tried a sand spike initially but it was only of use on the beach. I then tried saving money and bought cheap genric ones and the amount of times everything went over got annoying quickly. All it takes is a bit of wind or tidal pull with a poor tripod and all your tackle ends up on the floor.

Buy Cheap?

After trying two other tripods at £10 and £12 respectively, one broke on its third use and the other is very unstable so stays in the shed where its belongs. These sort are really poor value, you will end up paying out more in the long run. Example HERE

Value for money?

I had a look around at what was available and settled on the Shakespeare Salt tripod. It takes me a while to make any purchase decision, everything has to be reviewed a few times before I make any sort of purchase. There are other options on the market at various price points, this one is a great all rounder with good features.

Features

I chose the Shakespeare Salt Tripod after having a closer look at various options in store at Anglesey Bait Centre. Its a sturdy piece of kit and can be set up  quickly and easily, the adjustable legs help get it into the perfect position. When fishing from rock marks it great as its simple to adjust, on sand I just place it down and sink it in. The legs are spike to make its stable in loose sand, moreover it’s height adjustable so will fit most peoples preferred position easily.

There is a small hook just under the head of the tripod head, when its windy you can hang a weight here to make it even more stable. Perfect for hanging pre prepared and baited rigs, great for when fishing match’s and you need to get back out quickly. Bait buckets can also be handily fixed here too.  I have used it in awful windy weather and its always held its own, its also good when the tide is pulling strongly. Its super stable with superb build quality. Its been tried and tested on the river Mersey on some large tides and windy conditions, I would bother without it.

The tripod comes in its own bag with shoulder strap for lugging it about, it is a touch heavier than some other models as it also has stabilizers on the legs which you don’t get on other brands, its a solid piece of kit. It is also shorter when its in its bag than a lot of other tripods available so I can just put it in the back foot well of the car. It also fits sideways into the boot of my small hatchback so its pretty portable too.

It can also fit a bait net net between the legs which is really useful when fishing. None branded available HERE and Leeda branded HERE

I’ve used it all over Anglesey, Llyn Peninsula and the Mersey during winter and its never let me down, its the one piece of gear I grab first when heading out the door. Strong and sturdy, you can also attach a bait net to the legs which makes baiting up much easier.

For winter fishing you can buy a Shakespeare salt sea fishing shelter, available HERE.

Great for keeping the wind and rain off while hunting for the winter cod.

We have a mini review page on various tripods HERE

Gents with the onset of Covid it is really difficult to get your hands on tripods at the minute. As soon as they are in stock they are sold out, hopefully things should pick up soon. Fingers crossed.
