Shoreside Caravan and Camping Park, Rhosneigr

Almost in the heart of Rhosneigr is Shoreside caravan and camping park, 5/10 mins walk.

At £6 per adult and £3 per child it shouldn’t break the bank. Rhosneigr is a Mecca for waterproof enthusiasts and Shoreside is not far from the action.

Shoreside is a well maintained site with good and clean facilities. There is also a small park to the rear of the caravan park where the children can play.

The main camping field is to the back of the grounds so it’s a bit of a walk to the toilets / shower block. The field itself is not entirely flat so choose your spot wisely, during the summer holidays this is a very busy site.

You can also set up camp at the front of the site by the main road. This shortens the toilet walk and the road is pretty quiet during the evening and at night time.

There is access across the road to cross the river, the bridge allows you to get to the sand dunes backing on to Raf Valley. Great for dog walks, runs or a steady stroll. Following the river on either side takes you to the main beach, choose which side you want and you are set. You can walk across easy enough at low tide if needed, it’s only a few inches deep.

A great place to stay, it’s pretty central so nowhere is all that far away. Access to most of Anglesey is available by car in around 25-30 minutes.

Pro’s and con’s? It depends really, given it’s great location and facilities there is one thing that may fit in both boxes. RAF Valley, the planes take off or landing flight path is directly above the site. The planes are low and loud, flying Monday to Friday. So no action at the weekends, personally I wouldn’t mind if they did fly at the weekend. That said they are loud and may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s a busy place in summer for a reason.

You can get great camera shots of take off and landings from the site. RAF Valley has a family fun day during summer, no access for us civvys but a cracking free air show? you can watch from the site or from the sand dunes to be closer to the action.

On a side note, if you walk the river at night after a period of little rain there is loads to look at. Natterjack toads are plentiful and the river is full of marine life.

If there has been no recent storms the water clarity at Rhosneigr beach is fantastic. Me and the kids go rockpooling and snorkelling whenever we can.Head down the usually desolate Cymyran Beach and you have the place to yourself. There is a rocky outcrop further down which is great for rockpools and snorkelling.

For me it’s a solid 9/10
