Dab
Dab are another of the UK’s resident flat fish species. Spread all over the UK coast they are known to save you from a blank at times, just like dogfish.
In terms of size Dab are a small flatfish species. The UK shore caught record is 2lb 9oz and the boat record is a little larger at 2lb 12oz.
In my opinion they are easily identifiable as there are only a few flatfish species. What I have noticed is I have caught a few which have a strange colouration. Instead of just plain light brown they have an unusual mottled almost mold like green/brown colouring in places.
